The NLV5201 is Opticon's fastest fixed mount 2D imager, specifically designed for high speed applications, but simple enough to use in Kiosks and P.O.S. systems. (Contains the module: MDI4100). The NLV-5201 has three (3) different fixed focal models to choose from.

  • (-SR @ 113mm focus) The Standard resolution model is for most applications.
  • (-HD @ 63mm focus) The High Density model would be used for smaller code densities.
  • (-UD @ 43mm focus) There is also an Ultra-Density model. This model would be a special order. This would be used for very high density codes (5mil to 3mil [0.005" - 0.003"] size elements)

How To

Change Interface/Restore Default Settings

  • USB COM Port: Use this sheet if you have a USB interface and you are running software which requires a COM port to receive data from the scanner.
  • USB Keyboard(HID): Use this sheet if you have a USB interface and you would like the flexibility of scanning wherever your keyboard cursor is on your screen.

  • RS232: Use this sheet if you have an RS232 interface.
  • NOTE: For best results when communicating with the Tuning Software (below in the download section), it is recommended to switch the baud rate of your RS232 NLV-5201 scanner to 115,200 baud.

Configure the Scanner:

The behavior and data output of this bar code reader can be modified using several different tools. Configuring can be done using special "Menu Commands". Opticon has a printed manual of the most common Menu Codes (See the next Section "Universal Menu Book"). Another utility for configuring your scanner is "Opticonfigure". Please submit a ticket above for assistance from Opticon's Technical Support Team.

Using the Universal Menu Book:

The Universal Menu Book (UMB) is a PDF document that enabled you to change the most commonly changed settings on Opticon's scanners. The UMB also contains information about what the various settings do when they are enabled. The UMB covers the following topics.

  • Interface Specific Settings
  • Code Opticons
    • Barcode Symbology Settings
    • Enabling/Disabling Symbologies
  • String Options
    • Prefixes / Suffixes
    • Preambles / Postambles
  • Read Options- Adjusting General Behaviors like:
    • Disable Trigger (Always On)
    • Single Read Mode / Multiple Read Mode
  • Indicator Opticons
    • Buzzer Settings
    • LED Settings

Using the Opticonfigure Utility:

The Opticonfigure online utility serves primarily as a searchable Universal Menu Book (UMB) and is available for free on the internet web. The benefit to using Opticonfigure is that it is updated more frequently than the Universal Menu Book. Opticonfigure also contains some menu options that were excluded from the UMB for the sake of brevity. Although more inclusive, Opticonfigure doesn't do as good of presenting information in an organized and comprehensible manner as the UMB does. Opticonfigure allows you to: Create and print custom configuration sheets. Create custom configuration sheets and save them as PDF files. Create custom configurations and export OCG files.
