ULTRA-SLIM MODULE DESIGN

Specifications & Software are tentative and subject to change.

Overview

The MDI4150 is an ultra-slim imager scan engine with integrated camera and a decoder board, which enables high speed scanning of standard linear (1D) and 2D symbologies. The [[MDI4050] is the two piece solution of our ultra-slim imager scan engine, perfect for very low height clearances. Main features of the MDI4x50 modules are as follows:

  • Lower Idle & Sleep mode currents (Idle@ 26mA/Sleep@1mA) than the MDI4100
  • World’s thinnest class 2D imager scan engine
  • Image Sensor: CMOS 640x480, 100fps, for fast/clean image captures at high speed motion.
  • I/F: Serial (TTL-232), USB-HID, USB-COM
  • Optics:
    • (SR) Standard Range @ 115mm focus,
    • (HD) High Density @ 65mm focus,
    • (UD) Ultra Density @ 45mm focus

The MDI-4150 with its camera and an integrated decoder board has a slim height just under 10mm. The slim design is perfect for any applications that require a very tight mounting space.

High-speed reading

  • Extremely high performance decoder ensures stress-free scanning and fast response, which is not affected by poor quality codes (damaged and low contrast etc), hand-shaking and even in a dark place.

High-speed image sensor

  • A High-speed CMOS image sensor at the maximum of 100 fps and the fastest shutter speed with global shutter in the industry enable the high-speed scanning.

The fastest Image processing speed in the industry

  • High-performance and low-power 800MHz CPU enables a smooth response by processing vast amount of information transferred from the 100fps CMOS image sensor in a very short time.

Data Editing function

A new highly programmable post data edit functionality is added called the “Data Editing Program”. I can capture up to 16 codes on multiple images simultaneously in one read cycle. Output editing process, such as GS1 formating, also can be set easily.

Low power consumption

  • Power consumption in operating, standby and low power states has been drastically reduced. Various power saving settings can be configured in low power mode.

Green LED aiming and Warm-White LED Illumination

  • A sharp single line of green LED and an efficient warm-white LED illumination make it easy to aim the scanner while providing safety and long-life.

RoHS compliance

  • The MDI-4150 is a RoHS compliant product, which is declared by Optoelectronics Co., Ltd.

How To

Change Interface and Restore Default Settings

  • USB COM Port: Use this sheet if you have a USB interface and you are running software which requires a COM port to receive data from the scanner.
  • USB Keyboard: Use this sheet if you have a USB interface and you would like the flexibility of scanning wherever your keyboard cursor is on your screen.
  • RS232: Use this sheet if you have an RS232 interface.

Notice: For USB modes please use the most recent Drivers.

Configure the Scanner

The output of this barcode reader can be modified in several different manners. Using several different tools. The following tools are available for you to use in configuring your scanner. Please submit a ticket above for assistance from Opticon's Technical Support Team.

Universal Menu Book

The Universal Menu Book (UMB) is a PDF document that enabled you to change the most commonly changed settings on Opticon's scanners. The UMB also contains information about what the various settings do when they are enabled. The UMB covers the following topics.

  • Interface Specific Settings
  • Code Opticons
    • Barcode Symbology Settings
    • Enabling/Disabling Symbologies
  • String Options
    • Prefixes / Suffixes
    • Preambles / Postambles
  • Read Options- Adjusting General Behaviors like:
    • Disable Trigger (Always On)
    • Single Read Mode / Multiple Read Mode
  • Indicator Opticons
    • Buzzer Settings
    • LED Settings

Opticonfigure

Opticonfigure serves primarily as a an online searchable Universal Menu Book (UMB), however it does have some notable differences. Opticonfigure is updated more frequently than the UMB. Opticonfigure also contains some menu options that were excluded from the UMB for the sake of brevity. Although more inclusive, Opticonfigure doesn't do as good of presenting information in an organized and comprehensible manner as the UMB does. Opticonfigure allows you to: Create and print custom configuration sheets. Create custom configuration sheets and save them as PDF files. Create custom configurations and export OCG files.

Use in Linux

The MDI4050 can be supported in Linux with the 'libudev0' library and it appears as ttyACM0d. the port can then be opened as any other serial port in Linux.
