RS-3000

About

The RS-3000 has a proven and most powerful 2D engine built-in enabling fast and accurate scanning up to 100 fps. It rapidly and easily scans barcodes off cell phone, tablet and computer displays and even scans curved, wide, poorly printed, and damaged barcodes with no challenge. The exceptional motion tolerance is ideal for any application, even from a wide range or angle.

  • Durable; even in a challenging warehouse environment, the RS-3000 can withstand a 1.5 m drop onto concrete due to the durable, high impact-resistant polycarbonate plastic.
  • Wireless charging; the RS-3000 can be charged wirelessly with any Qi-compatible charging pad. Of course, it is also possible to charge it via the USB-C port.
  • NFC tag; the built-in tag that can be used by most modern devices for easy Bluetooth pairing.
  • Bluetooth 4.2; the RS-300 features a modern Bluetooth 4.2 compliant chip that supports both Bluetooth classic as well as Bluetooth low energy (BLE). It uses less power and is faster, allowing data transfer up to two and a half times faster than earlier versions.
  • USB-C; the companion scanner comes with a USB-C charging/communication port. it supports USB-HID, USB-COM and USB-MSD.
  • Battery lifetime: The ringscanner does not use a lot of power during operation, making it last a whole working day without having the need to recharge, even up to 20 hours of operating time. With the accurate battery monitoring system, you will always know when it is time to recharge.

Firmware Loading

There are multiple components to the firmware on an RS3000 (Bootloader, OS, and Application). However, the instructions to load them individually or all together are the same. In most cases, all you'll need to do is load the OS and the proper Application file for your needs.

Follow the directions below to load firmware onto the RS3000.

Preparation

  1. Download Appload for this process, which is available in the Software Downloads section. You may also need Opticon's USB Drivers, so please download those as well.
  2. Download the appropriate Firmware: Application file for your needs. This is most likely to be the Bluetooth Application, however, there are other Applications available. A complete list can be found in the Downloads Section at the bottom of the page.
  3. Extract the RS3000 Firmware - OS zip files, the Appload.zip file, the USB Drivers Installer.zip file, and the RS3000 Firmware - Application files into a convenient folder.
  4. Install Appload by double-clicking the 'Appload Setup.exe' file, which will start the install wizard. The defaults are fine in most cases, so keep clicking 'Next' until you are finished. Appload will launch at the end of the installation process.
  5. Connect the RS3000 to your PC

Install the Firmware

  1. Launch Appload if it is not already running.
  2. We first need to choose the correct COM port. From the main Appload window, select 'Settings' > 'Port', then choose the port that says 'Opticon USB Code Reader'.
  3. Now we can start downloading the OS and Application. For each of the .hex files you downloaded and extracted above, please choose 'File', then 'Download', then navigate to and select the file. You should see a progress indicator and the words 'Initializing IRdA' if this is working.
  4. When complete the RS3000 will emit a series of beeps and reboot. When the LED is steady RED (indicating charging) or GREEN (indicating fully charged) the process is complete and you may disconnect your RS3000 from the PC. instruction manuals for the various applications are available for download in the Downloads section.

Alternative Modes

In addition to the CSP2 support built into the RS3000, it is also capable of functioning as either a USB Keyboard or a USB flash drive. Both of these modes eliminate the need for PC software.

When in Keyboard mode, the RS3000 can scan in real-time or store data in memory which can later be transmitted at the push of a button. In flash disk(MSD) mode the RS3000 stores barcode scans into a text file on the device. The text file can later be accessed simply by plugging in the device.

Batch Mode

This will make the scanner memorize the data and store it temporarily until the transmit data barcode is scanned

  • To put the RS3000 in batch mode, Scan the +-MSTR-+ barcode. The device will then be in batch mode and will continue to store the data until the transmit data barcode is scanned.
  • To transmit the data and leave the device in batch mode scan the +-MXMT-+ barcode
  • To transmit the data and start scanning in real-time mode scan the +-MSTP-+ barcode
  • To clear all temporary memorized data off the scanner, scan the +-MCLR-+ barcode

Bluetooth Batch Mode Menu Commands

USB Keyboard Mode

This mode allows the RS3000 to emulate a USB Keyboard. While the RS3000 is plugged in, any barcodes that are scanned are input wherever the cursor is on the screen. When a barcode is scanned while the RS3000 is disconnected, the barcode is stored in memory. When you want to retrieve scanned barcodes, simply plug the RS3000 into a computer, and press any key on the device to have it playback all of the barcodes that were scanned while it was disconnected.

To use the RS3000 in USB Keyboard Mode, print and scan this barcode sheet.

Bluetooth Low Energy Mode

Bluetooth Low Energy mode provides reduced power consumption and cost while maintaining a similar communication range as a standard Bluetooth connection. iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, macOS, Linux, Windows 8, and Windows 10 all support Bluetooth Low Energy connection. To enable this connection on your RS3000, print and scan this barcode sheet from top to bottom.

Alternative Firmware

Storage Application (MSD Mode)

This mode makes the RS3000 act like a flash disk and stores the batched bar code into a file. When the RS3000 is connected to a USB cable and plugged into a computer, then a window will pop up asking if you want to browse the files stored. Any bar codes stored will show up in the SCANNED.TXT file. The Firmware: Mass Storage Device Application must be loaded on the RS3000 in order to enable this mode of operation. To install the Storage Application, follow these firmware loading instructions. Once the storage application is loaded, print and scan this sheet of barcodes to configure the device to act as a flash disk.

Once that's finished, scanning bar codes is as simple as pressing a button. When you want to download your bar code scans, plug the RS3000 into a computer, and copy the text file out of the flash drive. For more configuration options, see the User Manual Storage Application. In particular, the very last page has barcodes that can be scanned to configure the layout of the text file.

OPN2001 Simulation

The OPN2001 Simulation is a batch mode application that uses the Companion Application to download the barcodes. To use the RS3000 with the OPN Companion Application, first the Firmware: OPN2001 Simulation Application must be loaded onto the RS3000. To install the OPN2001 Simulation Application, follow these firmware loading instructions. You may also need to print and scan this barcode sheet.

Return to Bluetooth Mode

To return the RS3000 to Bluetooth mode, you will need to load the Firmware: Bluetooth Application. To install the Firmware: Bluetooth Application, follow these firmware loading instructions.
