OpticonAG

Opticon AG (Application Generator) is similar to SpeedGen and RapidGen in that it is a way to develop an application for a terminal device that does not require actually writing code (though development experience or at least a good head for logic is recommended). This is a USA only product.

Note: OpticonAG has been discontinued effective February 1, 2009. Support will continue but we will no longer be offering AG to new customers or existing customers who have never used it before. Quick Warehouse (developer of AG) has disabled the ability to register the application on their website. AG can no longer be activated under any circumstances. All customer using OpticonAG on the OPL9728 terminal will be migrated to SpeedGen or the SDK. All customers using the PHL1300 terminal must be migrated to the SDK as there is no alternative.

Terminals Supported

Setup

  • The Cradle and AG must be set to 19200 BaudRate. For the CRD9723 cradle this is Dip Switch: 1=[OFF] 2=[OFF] 3=[ON] 4=[OFF] 5=[OFF] 6=[OFF]
  • The AG interpreter layer must be installed on the device first (this is done at the factory but can be done by repair if necessary, never by the customer. This is done with Appload).
  • The AG application the user creates must be loaded through the AG Server software.
  • AG Server and AG Editor must be installed separately and registered individually on the Quick Warehouse (now known as Xceliware) website to run outside of demo mode. Xceliware has made noises that they will be removing the AG registration website. If this happens there will no longer be a way to activate the PC side software. Various workarounds are being investigated including asking for a API or algorithm from Xceliware so we may continue activating the few licenses we have left. The PC side generated key is unique to each PC so this cannot be done in advance.

Vista and Windows 7 Support

Opticon AG does not now, nor will it ever support use on Windows Vista or Windows 7. You get an error when you access the Help > Registration menu.

Troubleshooting

OPL9728

  • Sometimes if a device is left sitting for too long when the device boots it will be blank. To fix this you can go to the system menu (Press together Q1+SCAN+Q2) scroll to 'Lsit Files' and press SCAN then while holding Q2, press Q1 then SCAN and release Q2. You will be prompted to Format RAM Disk. Select yes. Now go back to System menu and restart the device. If this does not work you will likely have to RMA the device, just be sure it was charged first before doing this. This will delete all customer data. Attempt an upload first.
