About

The OPI3301 is an ultra-lightweight Bluetooth™ CMOS imager that reads 1D or 2D barcodes for healthcare, retail, point-of-sale (POS), inventory or logistics applications. The OPI3301 uses LEDs for lighting and features a red laser spot for aiming. Disinfectant-ready plastic makes this scanner ideal for Healthcare applications.

Usage

The OPI3301 can be used in a few different modes. The easiest way to use it is to pair it with the CRD-3301 cradle. It can also be directly paired with any PC or Apple computer that supports Bluetooth. While connected the OPI3301 can transmit data either by emulating a Bluetooth keyboard(HID-mode), or through a serial(COM) port.

CRD3301 Connection

  1. First, choose your preferred interface type, either keyboard emulation or serial.
    1. Keyboard Emulation allows any barcode scanned to be transmitted directly to the cursor on the host computer. To enable Keyboard Emulation, print this barcode sheet and scan the barcode on it.
    2. Serial mode causes the OPI3301 to transmit data only over a COM port. Choose this mode only if you have software which requires it. To enable transmission via a COM port, print this sheet and scan the barcode on it.
  2. Plug the cradle into the PC or Mac.
  3. Scan the Quick Connect barcode on the bottom of the cradle. The OPI3301 should chirp, and a solid blue light will appear on the cradle to indicate a good connection.

At this point if you've chosen keyboard emulation, barcode data will appear at your cursor. If you've chosen Serial mode then you will need to open the application which you intend to use the OPI3301 with in order to receive data.

Direct Connection

Note that you will need a Bluetooth device installed on your host computer in order to directly connect the OPI3301.

    1. First, choose your preferred interface type, either keyboard emulation or serial.
    2. Keyboard Emulation allows any barcode scanned to be transmitted directly to the cursor on the host computer. To enable Keyboard Emulation, print this barcode sheet and scan the barcode on it.
    3. Serial mode causes the OPI3301 to transmit data only over a COM port. Choose this mode only if you have software which requires it. To enable transmission via a COM port, print this sheet and scan the barcode on it.
  1. On the host PC, determine what the Bluetooth address of your adapter is. How you do this will be different depending on whether you're using a Mac or a PC. You will need this information for the next step.
  2. Visit our Opticonfigure site to generate a quick connect barcode. On Opticonfigure, choose Browse from the tabs at the top right. In the first dropdown, choose Tools. In the second dropdown, choose Bluetooth address. Enter the Bluetooth address you found in the previous step and click "Show Address." Print the page that appears.
  3. Print this sheet and scan it to configure your PIN code to "0000."
  4. Scan the Bluetooth Address sheet you created above to initiate a connection. In a few minutes your host system will receive a Bluetooth Pairing Request from the OPI3301. Follow the instructions on your screen and enter the PIN code 0000. The OPI3301 will chirp when the connection is successful.

At this point if you've chosen keyboard emulation, barcode data will appear at your cursor. If you've chosen Serial mode then you will need to open the application which you intend to use the OPI3301 with in order to receive data.
