Quiet zones sometimes called margins or clear zones, are the white space around the barcode separating it from the rest of the document or label. In a 1D barcode symbology the symbology will specify a clear space to precede the start character and follow the stop character. In a 2D barcode symbology the quiet zone surrounds the whole symbol. Our Universal Menu Book contains margin check options to tell the barcode reader to decode barcodes with smaller quiet zones than specified by the symbology. Doing so may increase the probability of misreads.
