How to:
Configure Ethernet Cradle Options
To use the optional Ethernet Cradle interface and enable Windows File Sharing we should first configure user accounts and the device name using the web interface. To do this, first connect your Ethernet cradle both to power using the supplied power adapter, and to an active Ethernet port on your local network using an Ethernet patch cable.
Remote Device Administration
To remotely manage the device, open up a web browser on a local computer, and navigate to the device using its IP address. For example, to navigate to the H25 with Ethernet IP address 172.30.101.90, open up Internet Explorer or your web browser of choice, and enter "http://172.30.101.90/" then press Enter.
If you have not previously set an Admin password for the device, the first page that you will see will prompt you to set one. Please choose a secure password, and enter it twice. The interface will restart, and after 30 seconds will present you with the Windows CE Remote Management Tool.
Device Management Device Management presents two options:
- Configure Network: Here you are able to configure the IP address and other network information for each of the available network interfaces on the H25. Be careful when editing this information as you can render the device inaccessible by changing these settings.
- HostName Config: Use this page to set the local network Hostname of your device. If your network supports hostname discovery, then setting this will allow you to access devices using their hostname rather than their IP address, which is useful when the device uses DHCP to get its IP address rather than using a statically configured IP.
Security Security presents one option, which allows you to reset the Admin password to something new.
Add/Del Users This page allows you to add additional users to your CE device. Each user can be given access to their own shares on the device, allowing you to for example give different services or users remote access to different files without having to use the device administrative password.
File Server and Printer This page contains some very useful capabilities, and gives you the ability to configure remote Windows Shares from which you can download data off the device.
- Add/Del Share: This page allows you to share any available folders on the device filesystem. To add a share, enter a network name for the share in the box next to a given local folder, then click Add. To configure the share, select Permissions to configure individual user permissions on the device.
- Add/Del Network Adapter: This page allows you to enable sharing via individual network adapters on the CE terminal. By default, sharing is only available via the cradle's ethernet port.
- SMB Server Statistics: This section just indicates how many packets have been sent and received by the device while file sharing is enabled.
Browsing the Device Remotely
To browse the device remotely, first set up a file share using the remote management webpage(see previous section). Once you've set up your share, open up File Explorer on a Windows PC, then navigate to your terminal like you would a file server. For example, if my terminal's IP address is 172.30.101.98, then I can browse its shares by entering \\172.30.101.98\ into File Explorer in Windows.
Once you've attempted to browse to the terminal, you will then have to enter your username and password to connect to individual shares.
Find the IP address
To find the IP address of the device, navigate to Start->Settings->Network & Dial-up. The IP address for the Ethernet interface will be available on the AX88772B network connection, while the IP address for the wireless interface will be available on the SDCS30AG interface.
Performing a Warm Boot ( Soft Reset ) on the H25
To perform a Warm Boot on the H25, press and hold the following keys at the same time: "Fn"+"ALPHA"+"Enter". Then release the buttons. A Warm Boot will not delete any data or erase settings.
Performing a Cold Boot ( Hard Reset ) on the H25
To perform a Cold Boot on the H25, press and hold for 3 seconds the following keys at the same time: "Fn"+"Enter"+"Power Button". The device should now perform a Cold Boot.
WARNING: A cold boot resets the device into factory default settings. All data that is not in the DiskOnChip folder of the device, will be deleted.
Perform a Backup on the H25
To Backup your data, go to Start -> Settings -> Backup/Restore utility. Select the place where you you want to save your data in the Target/Source menu. Then press Backup button: can take a minute to Backup your data.
Restore a Backup on the H25
To restore a previously performed backup of your data, go to Start -> Settings -> Backup/Restore utility. Select the place where you previously have saved your data from the "Restore from" menu. Then press Restore button: your data will be restored.
Restoring automatically from a Backup on the H25
- To restore automatically a previously performed backup of your data (please see instructions above), go to Start -> Programs -> Controls -> Boot Manager utility.
- If needed, select "Enable Wi-Fi/Bluetooth after system start" checkbox.
- Then, from the Program scroll menu, select the case in which you would like to restore the backup: Cold Boot, Warm Boot, Sleep Resume.
- Then press Add button: select both the files named Files, Registry from the FlashDisk -> Device Backup folder.
- Then press the OK button from the top right corner in the application.
